Privacy and the visit counter
What this site collects and does not collect, and where data goes when the visit counter and the assistant are used.
In short
- The site needs no account and never asks for your name, email or any health data.
- The site sets no cookies and uses no advertising or analytics tools that track people.
- We store no personal health data. A personal health feature is postponed until a proper privacy and security system exists and the UAE legal framework for health data has been reviewed.
The visit counter
- The footer of each page shows today’s visits and the total for the whole site.
- It uses an external service called Abacus (abacus.jasoncameron.dev), the same service used across the Kharousi network sites.
- What the site sends: a “count one” request naming only the day counter or the total counter. It does not send which page you are reading or anything you type.
- As with any web request, that service’s server receives your IP address, browser type and the site’s domain. We only get the totals back; how the service handles requests is governed by its own policy.
- A visit is counted once per browsing session: your browser keeps a temporary marker in sessionStorage that is cleared when the session ends. Pages opened outside med.kharousi.com, or by what looks like an automated crawler, are not counted.
- If the service cannot be reached the counter simply disappears and the site keeps working. You can switch it off by blocking abacus.jasoncameron.dev in your browser’s content blocker.
What your browser keeps
The site keeps display preferences only in localStorage. They stay on your device and are never sent to a server:
- Light or dark theme, the chosen explanation level, and the interface motion setting.
- The country chosen in the emergency-numbers window.
You can delete them at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.
The assistant
- When you ask the assistant a question, your question, the earlier questions and answers of the same conversation and related passages from this site are sent to the K AI service on kharousi.com, which generates the answer with Google’s Gemini model.
- The site does not save the conversation in your browser; it ends when you close the page.
- The kharousi.com service does not log or store the text of questions. It keeps only a daily request counter tied to a hashed (SHA-256) form of the IP address, to prevent abuse.
- Google processes the request to generate the answer, under the Gemini API terms.
- If the service is not available, the assistant shows passages from the site directly without sending your question.
- Do not type your name, ID number or details of your personal health into the assistant.
Search
Search runs in your browser on an index loaded from this site, so your search words are not sent to any server.
The two research tools
- The Research section has two tools that contact public research services, only after you press the search button; each explains what is sent before use.
- Study reader: sends only the DOI you type to Crossref (api.crossref.org) and Europe PMC (www.ebi.ac.uk).
- Trials search: sends only the condition you type and the country you choose to ClinicalTrials.gov.
- Requests go straight from your browser to those services, without cookies and without the page address; they do not pass through or get stored on the Medi.kharousi server. As with any web request, those services receive your IP address and browser type, under their own policies.
- Do not type personal details into these tools.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Netlify. Like any website host, it processes the technical data needed to serve pages, such as IP addresses, under its own privacy policy.
Emergencies
- This platform is educational and must not be relied on in emergencies. If a situation is serious, call emergency services now.
- UAE numbers (Police 999, Ambulance 998, Civil Defence 997) are from the official UAE Government portal, checked on 7 October 2026: u.ae. For other countries, confirm the official number where you are; numbers can vary by region.
